01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Tossing the thick, chewy noodles straight into the rich tare sauce and seasoned minced meat resting at the bottom of the bowl is the first pleasure of ordering the soupless dandan noodles at Fresco. Nutty, rich sesame combines with the gentle prickle of Sichuan pepper and chili heat, with spice and numbing levels both tailored to preference at the time of ordering. Once the noodles are finished, a warm dashi broth is provided to pour into the remaining sauce, turning the last spoonfuls into a clean, satisfying finish.

Beyond the soupless version, options extend to soy milk dandan noodles, where mellow soy broth cushions the spice, alongside assertively spiced mala dandan noodles and dipping tsukemen. Plump, chewy pan-fried gyoza and seasoned soft-boiled eggs make effortless sides to round out lunch.

Though focused on noodles, the interior takes on the relaxed feel of a cafe and bar, complete with tables and counter seating embedded with white sand and shells under glass. Evenings invite a leisurely drink with beer or sake alongside crisp garlic-topped beef tataki or marinated salmon, capped off naturally with a bowl of dandan noodles.
